Tightwad Tuesday: Off Season / by Laurie Cohen

Three words:   Off. Season. Wedding.

In many areas, the wedding industry is very seasonal.  Snow in the winter may lead to a slow wedding business during the coldest months.  Hot Arizona Summer?  Summer wedding inquiries are not more than a trickle.  So what does this mean for you?  If the off season in your town is still lovely,  you might find there are considerable benefits.

  • You may be able to negotiate considerable discounts for your venue and your food and beverage costs. Whether you book your wedding reception at a resort, country club or private estate you may get more for your budget dollars in the off season.
  • You may find that vendors are available, even if your engagement is brief.  They too, may be willing to offer you competitive pricing during the slow months.
  • Your hotel room guest block OR rack rates may be a fraction of the price they would be in high season.
  • Conversely, in high season, you may find that venues and sales managers have fewer price breaks they can offer you.

If you are flexible about wedding seasons and dates, ask the sales manager at your venue of interest if there are any dates open that might be available at discounted rates.   Happy Planning!
